Pedestrian struck and killed in a hit and run in Fitchburg. We constantly hear about how dangerous it can be if you’re out on foot on Halloween night. With so many trick or treaters on the road, drivers need to be extra careful. It gets dark early and, if you’re not paying attention, you could hit a child or parent trying to cross the street.
For a woman crossing the busy intersection on John Fitch highway on Halloween night, this warning was not enough. A woman had left the gas station and was attempting to cross the street when she was mowed down by a vehicle traveling on the highway.
The truck that hit her didn’t stop. They hit the woman and then fled the scene. Eye witnesses said that the vehicle appeared to be a dark colored SUV or pickup truck. They didn’t see the driver and couldn’t provide any further information.
The woman was wearing dark clothes. Authorities said this intersection is very busy and can be dangerous even during the day. They didn’t seem all that surprised that a pedestrian accident had taken place. They were probably much more surprised that the driver who hit her took off and didn’t stick around to see if she was okay.
The investigation is still ongoing. The identity of the woman who was killed has not yet been released. Nor has any information about the driver been released. The police are still looking for him. It can be difficult since there isn’t much more than a vague description of the vehicle.
We imagine that, once the driver is identified, the family of the victim may have a wrongful death claim.
