One reason the Boston police remind people to drive safely is to make sure everyone on the road gets home safe. When someone drivers aggressively, they take their own lives into their hands, but they also put the lives of others at risk. This is what happened this weekend in Brockton, Massachusetts.
A man driving an Infiniti sedan was traveling North on Main Street in Brockton when he attempted to pass cars on the right side of the road. He was speeding and trying to pass on the shoulder. He lost control of his car and ended up leaving the road. He crashed into a tree and the car came to a stop.
When the police arrived at the scene, they found the driver, 23-year old Damean Abreau, trapped in his car. They extricated him from the car but, sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger in the front of the car, 21-year old Adenilzo Lopes, was ejected in the crash. His body flew out the passenger side window.
Lopes was rushed to Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital, however, he died later while at the hospital. Lopes and Abreau were cousins according to reports. The family lost not one, but two people in one reckless crash.
Thankfully, no other vehicles were involved in the crash and nobody else was injured. However, this is an accident that could’ve been prevented. And, even though the two were related, that doesn’t mean Lopes’ family won’t decide to pursue a wrongful death claim against the driver.
